Decorating with BurlapNovember 7, 2013
The holidays are fast approaching and it got me thinking about what is trending this year. Those of us who have been around a while know what’s old becomes new at some point and right now – burlap is all the rage! It is a great, inexpensive & multifunctional fabric.
Most people think of burlap as a fall fabric, but you can use it all year long. Lately, I’ve seen it used in weddings, upholstery, picture matting, table setting, lamp shades, drapes, bed skirts the list endless.
But back to the holidays. Consider using it as a table runner at Thanksgiving. Use it over a white table cloth or on its own – both looks are charming! If you really want to dress up the table add burlap chair wraps and finish it with sprigs of rosemary! And as Christmas nears, consider red burlap for table mats, fringe them for more interest. I must give my Mom credit for that idea – I grew up helping her pull out the red mats and placing them on tables throughout the house before the Christmas decorations were added! Like I said, what old is new again!
Be creative, burlap is fun, comes in a variety of colors (classic tan is my favorite!) and is very affordable. Here is a great DIY idea. Wrap a gift with burlap and tied with twine, add a piece of holly or a glass ornament, it’s the perfectly wrapped gift!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season!!
